Brighton Festival & The Brighton Fringe 2012

Brighton Festival and the Brighton Festival Fringe are back on Saturday 5th May 2012.

Brighton Festival’s guest director Vanessa Redgrave is promising “an inspirational journey through spectacular classical music, innovative theatre, thrilling contemporary dance, ground-breaking debates and striking visual art and film”. Preview tickets go on sale on 22nd February with bookings going live to everyone on 2nd March.

Brighton Fringe 2012 is the third largest festival of its kind in the world with open access to every imaginable art-form. What makes it extra special is the city itself.  Brighton and Hove’s unique blend of heritage, diversity, creativity and innovative thinking inspires and influences people far beyond its sunny, South Coast location. Visit Brighton expects to welcome over 1,000,000 visitors to the city in May. Audiences of 180,000 are expected for almost 700 free and ticketed events across 200+ venues around Brighton & Hove.

Fringe activities started way back in 1967 at the time of the first main festival.  Since then it has grown exponentially and remains completely “open-access” meaning any performer of any art-form can register to appear for a small fee meaning visitors have to expect the unexpected. A wonderful part of the Fringe Festival is the Artists’ Open Houses programme in which artists invite the public into their homes, studios and gardens to display, discuss and sell their work.

We can’t wait for the fun to begin and we like to think that our boutique hotel captures the spirit of festival season.  We can even offer you one of our famous breakfasts before you pop off to one of the festival’s innovative morning after sessions or a delicious afternoon tea in between one of the afternoon perfomances. If you’d like to come and stay call us on 01273 603504 or send an email to info@blanchhouse.co.uk

Brighton grows events spaces

Brighton is dramatically expanding its events product as a series of refurbishments and new venues open in the city, VisitBrighton announced today.
A succession of new event spaces and venues have opened in recent months or are set to open in 2012, making Brighton more attractive than ever to event planners, corporates and associations. Developments range from hotels and universities, to unique venues and completely new structures, all of which will bring more delegates to the already popular city.

The Hilton Brighton Metropole will have completed its bedroom refurbishment by the end of 2011, resulting in 140 renovated rooms encompassing the whole front section of the hotel. All rooms, from Suites, Deluxe Plus rooms with panoramic sea views and Hilton Guestrooms, will be renovated in red and gold tones to match the Victorian decor of the hotel.  The hotel will also expand its events spaces with the creation of the Park Suites and an additional three syndicate spaces, allowing events to be held in a separate, self contained area. The total renovation at the Hilton Brighton Metropole, including continuation of the external renovation, amounts to £4million in 2011 alone.

Earlier this year, The Grand Brighton completed a £300,000 refurbishment of its largest events space, the Empress Suite. The development included new fittings and furniture, upgraded lighting, new window dressings and soundproofing partitions. The suite, which can be sub-divided into four sections, can cater for up to 800 and has been hugely popular since its re-design.

One of Brighton’s most iconic Regency boutique hotels, Blanch House, has recently opened after an extensive refurbishment programme and it is now under new ownership. The Grade II Listed property is suitable for conferences, training and private dining for up to 40 delegates in the new Belle Époque suite. Hotel du Vin has invested £150,000 in its 49 bedrooms, including adding state of the art iPod docking stations, designer coffee machines and under floor heating in the bathrooms.

Also this year Brighton’s iconic concert, conference and events venue, Brighton Dome, completed a £200,000 refurbishment of its Foyer and Mezzanine bar. The revamped Foyer is available for private hire for up to 800 delegates for drinks receptions, networking and presentations.

The University of Sussex recently opened a new 250 seat restaurant, coffee bar and food court in Bramber House which has proved popular with conference visitors.  In 2012 the University is set to open a new 500 seat lecture theatre suitable for conferences, presentations and product launches, and 250 additional ensuite bedrooms will be newly available for summer conferences. Next year also sees The Sea Life Centre’s refurbishment of its Victorian architecture, educational facilities, admissions area and two newly created exhibitions – the Jelly Disco and a behind the scenes tour. Part of the venue’s 140th birthday celebrations next year, the venue plans for the new exhibitions to be made available for drinks receptions or as part of delegates’ social itineraries whilst in the city.

The most anticipated development in the city is the continued investment in the Brighton Centre. One of the largest purpose built conference and exhibition spaces in the south of England, the beachfront venue is currently undertaking an extensive redevelopment of all facilities. Due to re-launch early 2012, the venue will include a new glass façade, extended foyer area, modernised interiors, and a superb meeting space with panoramic views of the famous seafront.

And if that wasn’t enough, the city skyline has been transformed by the Brighton Wheel, which opened in October. The £6million seafront attraction is expected to bring in 250,000 visitors per year, including delegates who can take advantage of the VIP pod for events or entertainment as part of a residential conference.

Julia Gallagher, VisitBrighton Convention Bureau Manager, comments: “Brighton has always offered a great diversity of venues to delegates coming into the city, and we are very proud of its constant reinvention and evolution. Investment in the city on this scale and frequency enables us to continually enhance the delegate experience. We are delighted to add additional and newly refurbished venues to our portfolio and hope corporates and buyers enjoy new experiences of the city within them”.

Blanch House boutique hotel unveils a bright and welcoming new venue for Weddings and Civil Ceremonies in a quiet romantic corner of Regency Brighton – Exclusive hotel use available

Date Issued:  16 September 2011

The Belle Epoque Suite – a bright and welcoming new venue for intimate weddings, civil ceremonies and receptions – has been unveiled by the owners of one of Brighton’s most iconic Regency boutique hotels, Blanch House in Atlingworth Street, Kemp Town.

The Belle Epoque Suite is part of a major refurbishment at the highly individual, new-look Grade II listed 12-bedroom Blanch House – reopened under new ownership in July 2011 and located in a romantic corner of Regency Brighton in a discreet Georgian terrace, only a short walk from the centre of the city and a stone’s throw from the seafront. Licensed to hold marriages and civil ceremonies, the Suite can comfortably seat up to a maximum of 40 people for the service; and can accommodate up to 80 guests for post-ceremony drinks and canapés.

Proprietors Jeremy Ornellas and Kerry Turner have redesigned the hotel to have a ‘green’ ethos and respect the heritage of the Regency building whilst paying attention to comfort, personalised service and contemporary style, as well as the needs of wedding and civil ceremony parties. Indeed, for these very special ‘occasions of a lifetime’, there is the opportunity to hire exclusively the Belle Epoque Suite, Champagne Bar, all 12 bedrooms (ranging from the romantic and luxurious to the fun and quirky), the Breakfast Room and the hotel’s ‘speciality house’ breakfast – using the best local produce – at all inclusive prices starting at £1,850 per night from Sunday to Thursday; and from £2,150 per night for a minimum of two night’s accommodation on Fridays and Saturdays.

Jeremy Ornellas explained: “With our wedding and civil ceremony licence, couples can leave the whole of their special day in our experienced hands – everything from recommendations for local florists and musicians, to preparing gourmet wedding breakfasts. They can also take advantage of our 12 highly individual guest rooms, including the very special and romantic ‘Perrier Jouet’ – ideal for the wedding night with its Regency opulence, decorative wrought iron balcony and superb view of the sea. Indeed, they can even take over the whole hotel for their exclusive use, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of our stylish Champagne Bar!

“At Blanch House, we are determined to ensure our wedding and civil partnership couples have a wonderful experience to treasure for the rest of their lives. We have great pleasure in working closely with them throughout every stage of the preparations for the event; and then taking care of the whole day and tailoring a wedding or civil partnership package to suit the budget and occasion.”

Packages can include: refreshments on arrival; a post ceremony Champagne reception; a gourmet three-course dinner, a half-bottle of wine per person; a Champagne toast; light bites later in the evening; overnight accommodation in the hotel; flowers for the public areas and the Belle Epoque Suite; and the ‘speciality house’ breakfast for up to 24 staying guests.

“Photography is always an important feature of a couple’s ‘Big Day’ and for those all important post ceremony photos, we are delighted to recommend local photographers. We know from experience that many couples like using Brighton’s wonderful beach as a backdrop and we are fortunate that the city’s historic sea-front, with its superb Georgian architecture, is so close to the hotel.”

Blanch House takes environmental and social responsibility very seriously; and is a member of the Considerate Hoteliers Association (CHA) – a nationwide association of like-minded hoteliers, whose purpose it is to encourage, assist, cajole and motivate fellow hoteliers to adopt sustainable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices. As a member, Blanch House joins such illustrious CHA establishments as Combe House hotel and restaurant at Gittisham, near Honiton, Devon; Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons at Great Milton, Oxfordshire; Strattons Hotel and Restaurant in Swaffham, Suffolk; The Cavendish London; and The Savoy, London.
